Dar-El-Kouti sites
The Tata (fortified palace) of Sultan Sénoussi, the caves of Kaga-Kpoungouvou, and the city of Ndélé is part of the Tentative list of Central African Republic in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The Tata (fortified palace) of Sultan Sénoussi, the caves of Kaga-Kpoungouvou, and the city of Ndélé represent the history of the Sultanate of Dar-El-Kouti in the late 18th century and early 19th century. Sultan Sénoussi gained his wealth in commerce and built a new capital on the Ndélé plateau in 1896. The caves of Kaga-Kpoungouvou were used as places of refuge from slave hunters, sent by the Sultan. Sénoussi was eventually killed by French colonial troops.
